Sanibel library offers book sale, youth craft kits

July 22, 2020

The Sanibel Public Library's "Fill-A-Bag for A Dollar" book sale is continuing until the inventory is depleted. Located in the library's puzzle area and main entrances, the books are restocked daily.

Proceeds go to the Sanibel Public Library Foundation, which helps support library programs.

Youth Services Librarian Deanna Evans invites families to register for the 2020 Summer Reading Program. More than 170 youths age "baby to teen" have signed up. Register through Beanstack at sanlib.beanstack.org/reader365. Participants may pick up their registration gift, add their name to the bricks on the "castle wall," and choose books earned. As in years past, they can read to earn books for their home library and for Golisano Children's Hospital of Southwest Florida patients.

The following youth programs are available online:

- A "Storytime with Ms. Deanna" video, featuring Youth Service Librarian Deanna Evans, will be posted on the library's youth page during the summer, replaced each week by a new story read aloud.

- "Baby Storytime Bounce" videos will be available on the library's youth page. It is a fun session to help to build motor and literacy skills through stories, song and movement.

- "Page Turner Adventures" will have programming every weekday from 1 to 4 p.m. on the library's youth page. It will include comedy story theater shows, crafts, recipes, author interviews, guest performers, contests and games.

Use a library computer to complete the 2020 census form; no library card is required.

Stop by to see lighthouse models, postcards and other lighthouse memorabilia on display.

Contact-less curbside service is continuing, with about 40 to 50 bags going out to patrons each weekday; call or go online to place a hold. At this time, no overdue fines are being assessed.

Library cards are available to residents of Sanibel and Lee County at no charge.

Visitor library cards are available for a $10 annual fee.
