The annual Tower Gallery Attic Sale began 11 years ago as a way to give back to the locals and to kick start the season.

The Attic Sale will be held at Tower Gallery, 751 Tarpon Bay Road, Oct. 20-21, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The sale which will be held inside, on the porch and in a tent in the parking lot, will offer huge discounts on paintings, sculptures, prints, rake, photography, jewelry and other items.

"People now plan their vacations around this art sale," said Marianne Ravenna, one of the artists at the Tower Gallery.

Many of the artists will be on hand that weekend doing outdoor demonstrations from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The sale will continue indoors until they close at 6 p.m.

Ravenna said the sale is the perfect opportunity for artists to clear out their studios and workshops so they can begin new work. All the funds from the sale will be benefit the gallery, which is a co-op of 23 different artists.

"It's to be able to pay our bills and keep the gallery going," Ravenna said. "It will help get ourselves going for the season."

The gallery, which was founded by Polly and Ikki Matsumoto, began at the Bell Tower Shops in Fort Myers in 1982. The Matsumotos eventually relocated to Sanibel. The couple moved a 1915 house from the beach to Tarpon Bay Road and made it into their gallery. The gallery then became a cooperative in 1994.

"It's a beautiful piece of property," Ravenna said. "It's just filled with art."
