A national touring three-piece band will make a stop on Sanibel Saturday, April 15 during the 6th annual Beer in the Bushes, a Sanibel Captiva Conservation Foundation fundraising event.

"It actually came to be, it piggybacked off of our Wines in the Wild event," Beer in the Bushes Producer Jeff Siwicke said. "Wines in the Wild is our welcome back kind of fundraiser in the fall and this is thanks it's been great, end of season celebration."

This year, he said he is very excited about the event because G. Love and Special Sauce is the headliner act for Beer in the Bushes. The national touring act, Siwicke said, is still making new music, is very relevant and proficient artists. The three-piece band plays a "sloppy" and "laid back" hip hop blues.

Al Hanser and Robin Cook from The Sanibel Captiva Trust Company, the Presenting Sponsor, raise a toast with SCCF’s Jeff Siwicke, Producer of Beer in the Bushes, and Erick Lindblad.

"It's a big name and a big concert tour for this little island. It's going to be really cool," he said. "They have been on my radar since college. I have seen them a few times."

The band will play around 8 p.m. and do a full set of music. The event is held from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

"We have gotten a higher caliber of musicians every year, which is due entirely to our sponsors. We have had the Jensen's (Twin Palms Resort & Marina) as a band sponsor every year supporting this event by providing support for the bands. This year, the level of musician we have, we have a couple extra band sponsors to help cover the cost. Kingfisher Vacations came in as a cosponsor, as well as Doc Ford's Rum Bar & Grille," Siwicke said. "None of this would be possible without SanCap Trust Company who is our presenting sponsor who makes this all possible. They have been with us since the beginning."

Jim Jensen said to say his family is proud to support SCCF would be an understatement.

"It's clear to us that SCCF, along with their marine lab, play a huge role in providing the public and our elected officials understandable facts about water conditions in Southwest Florida and work hard to offer clean water solutions," he said on behalf of his brothers John and Dave in a prepared statement.

When the guests first arrive at 6 p.m. there will be 10 local, new and returning, craft breweries set up pouring tastes for multiple kinds of beers. Those include Point Ybel, Naples Beach Brewing, Momentum Brewhouse, Millenial Brewing, Bury Me Brewing, South Cypress Brewing, 8 Foot Brewing, Palm City Brewing and Fort Misery Cider Co. The food trucks, arranged by Catering by Leslie Adams includes Ma Petite Creperie, Red Roc Craving, The Sizzle Truck, Gator Jons BQ, The Rolling Raw Bar, The Pecking Order and Beach Pies.

"Everyone gets $10 (TruxBux) to spend on those. It will be $5 denominations and all the items should cost $5 or 10 bucks, so they can eat from a couple different trucks," Siwicke said.

The event will be held in the parking lot of the SCCF Nature Center, 3333 Sanibel-Captiva Road. The stage is set up at the exit, with breweries set up throughout the lot. Since the event uses the premise, initial parking will be located at the "Ding" Darling tram lot, and then the Recreation Center and the Sanibel School. Siwicke encourages people to ride their bikes, or car pool to the event.

Tickets, which can be purchased at, are $70 and includes dinner and unlimited craft beer tastes.

The money raised during Beer in the Bushes will go towards SCCF's general operations budget.

Siwicke would like to thank his keg sponsors Pfeifer Realty Group, Superior Title, Great White Grill and GHD, growler sponsors Deborah La Gorce, Philip and Roberta Puschel,, pint glass sponsor Landmark Design of Sanibel, Lighthouse Caf, Island Inn, RE/MAX of the Islands and Bailey's and his pint level sponsor SWFL Hopheads.
