A spring tradition that is now in its third year will transform the Community House into a fun filled event to benefit the Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife hospital next month.

"It has developed into our spring fundraiser," Southern Comfort Chairperson Diane Neitzel said, adding that it has become an event where friends gather for dinner, dancing and fun before saying goodbye for the summer.

The 3rd annual Southern Comfort on Sanibel event will be held Saturday, April 1. The doors open at 6 p.m. and the last dance ends at 9 p.m., at the Sanibel Community House, 2173 Periwinkle Way.

Tickets are $55 per person before March 22. The price increases to $65 a person thereafter. Those interested can purchase tickets at, or at the door the day of the event.

This event will again feature an assortment of comfort food by The Pecking Order and David Flory, of the Island Ballroom, will provide the music, with promises of Motown music flooding the house. Neitzel said they are very excited to have a much larger dance floor this year in the newly renovated house because this event tends to attract dancers.

In addition to the food, and music, the event will also feature such carnival style games as darts, basketball, a putting green, and a crowd favorite, a wine bottle ring toss. Neitzel said when a ring lands around the neck of a bottle, the participant gets to take the wine home.

Individuals will receive a ticket every time they win a carnival game that can be redeemed for silly to nice prizes.

The opportunity for attendees to dress up and take photographs will also be available for those who wish to document their fun night.

For the first time, the event will feature a live auction and raffle. Some of the live auction items includes Resident Chef Jarred Harris cooking dinner for eight in the winner's home and a winner and 39 of their family and friends having a personal viewing at Island Cinema with popcorn and drinks.

The raffle includes the chance to win eight prizes - some of which include a piece of jewelry from Congress Jewelers, a CROW wildlife walk and a gift certificate to Norman Love Chocolates.

All of the money raised will go directly to the clinic to further care for sick, injured and orphaned animals of Southwest Florida. Neitzel said with veterinary expenses adding up rather quickly, it's important to hold the fundraisers to provide all the funds they can, so the staff has what they need.

"They do an incredible job," she said of staff, interns and volunteers. "I'm really proud to be associated with an organization like this."
