To the editor:
The work of the Planning Commission is at the center of keeping the Sanibel Plan working for all of us. I have been honored to be a member of that commission since 2009, so I have seen firsthand how the clear focus of our current City Council provides a steady hand directing Sanibel into a future that respects and honors our past, while understanding the needs of our city today.
We can be proud of the work they've done for our water quality issues, both on and off our island. We can be proud that our city is a role model for fiscal responsibility under their watch. Our taxes are reduced. Our debt is paid down. Our infrastructure is improved. The relationships that have been established are now more important than ever to maintain as our city, and our state, face the water quality crisis. Our voices are heard due to the tireless work of these men who have championed this cause well ahead of it being the "cool" buzz word on the political spectrum. All this in a calm inclusive fashion, that encourages public understanding and opinions. I will vote for the continuation of the current council representatives on March 7; Denham, Harrity and Ruane.
