The Florida Everblades prepared for the start of the new ECHL season this weekend by winning both exhibition games with the Orlando Solar Bears last weekend at Germain Arena.
The Blades prevailed 6-3 in the first meeting and capped that with a 5-1 win in the second.
Mathieu Roy and David Rutherford scored first-period goals to put the Blades in front for good in the finale on Saturday.
Matt Marquardt scored two goals, both assisted by Brandon MacLean, and Trevor Bruess tacked on another to finish the Blades scoring.
Blades goaltender Rob Madore stopped 23 of 24 shots.
Rutherford and Corey Trivino each scored two goals in the first preseason win. Aaron Bogosian and MacLean also scored goals for the Blades. MacLean also had three assists in the game. Taylor Ellington added two assists.
Goaltender Pat Nagle stopped 29 of 32 shots.
The Everblades make their regular season debut at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Germain Arena, once again hosting the Solar Bears. The team will raise its first Kelly Cup championship banner prior to the game while the first 2,500 fans each receive a mini banner souvenir.
Season opening weekend continues with a second game at 7 p.m. Saturday night.
